Snow Policy & Shrine Closing
The following is the official policy of the Diocese of Toledo:
Whenever a county/city within the Diocese of Toledo is placed under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, during which all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, the Catholic churches within that geographic region will cancel the scheduled Saturday Vigil, Sunday, or Holy Day Masses. Roman Catholics in that region, therefore, are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. If Masses are cancelled, Catholics are encouraged to participate in Holy Mass via television, radio, or internet, making a spiritual Communion. When Mass is cancelled, all other diocesan, parish, or school events in that geographic region are also cancelled.
The following is the policy at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine
The rural location of the shrine presents further challenges on the roadways. When there is a Level 2 Snow Emergency in Sandusky, Seneca and/or Huron Counties, the State discourages any unnecessary travel. While Mass is very important, we do not want visitors to the Shrine to place themselves at risk.
Under a Level 2 or Level 3 Snow Emergency Mass will NOT be publicly offered at the Shrine and the Gift Shop will also be closed. This is the safest policy for Shrine visitors. If it does become necessary to close, the Lord will make a special effort to hear your prayers at home.
